Between bumblebees and foxgloves

I heard them in their hundreds

Humming in

Unison

as they hoarded the spoils.

The foxgloves freely invited them in,

Lovingly opened up

While the world around them

Quietened.

They remained

Undisturbed

In their secret summer solace,

Unburdening one another

Of ordinary woes,

Telling prayers and dreams to each other

Unbeknownst

even to the tadpoles

In the brook below.
